    Description

    Amanda Smith ( 1837- 1915 ) was a popular and successful evangelist
who preached and taught in the United States and several foreign countries
including  England, India, and Liberia. As a child she was able to go to school
and learn how to read which was uncommon for African-American children.
There is additional information about her in several sources on the internet.
    The book is 5 3/4" x 8" x 1" with 506 pages. There is a frontispiece engraving
of her protected by a tissue insert. The cover with her gold-stamped portrait
has stains and wear to the ends of the spine. The owner's name appears on
the free front endpaper and pages 17-38 have indelible pencil marks. The
first signature ( 16 pages ) is loose but intact and page 494 has been reattached
    with old clear tape.
