    A RARECAT'S TREASURE.
    EXCELLENT AND OUTSTANDING!
This is a wonderful ornate casket handle...  Victorian c1890s.
    Here is my story:
In 1987 I contracted to remove the stained glass windows from Holy Redeemer Church on Hudson Avenue in Rochester, New York.  While trying to reach all the windows, it became necessary for me to get up high in the towers to reach the very highest windows.  Upon getting to the top of the tower I found an overhead trap door that led me to a stairway and entrance to the interior of the onion spire.  This was an incredibly large space, three or four stories tall, with a large timber propped vertically with slats nailed to it for the purpose of use as a ladder.  As I investigated the area I discovered an old ornate casket, perched on a ledge of the tower.  To this day it's a mystery to me how it was brought up and placed on that ledge.  I couldn't possibly move the casket.  Having a screwdriver in my back pocket, I
    decided
to take proof of my discovery to report what I had found.  When I relayed this information and presented the casket handle to the pastor in charge, I was told to forget about it and that the handle was mine to keep
    ...
It measures 7 and 1/2" wide by 3" tall and weighs a little less than 1lb.
    COMPOSITION-IRON OR SOME HARD METAL.
